Trip highlights

  • An exhilarating mountain bike descent of the infamous Jacobs ladder
  • Explore bush tracks

In the north east of Tasmania stands a proud dolerite peak, Ben Lomond. With its ski-field at the summit it is already an adventure playground however the road to the summit is what gets mountain bikers very excited. The road, known as Jacob's Ladder, descends over 1000m from the 1450m summit, switch backs, hairpin bends, gravel roads and even some single track ensure this is a big day out on the bike. The provision of mountain bikes, helmets, safety gear and vehicle support ensure all you need to bring is an appetite for adventure.

Starting in the alpine Ski Village at 1450m, this awesome trip takes you down the spectacular Jacobs Ladder road before connecting to old four wheel drive tracks through the eucaplypt forests. There is also a fantastic single-track section, part of the annual Ben Lomond Descent multi-sport race. We then continue on fire trails and other single tracks to our finishing point on the Blessington Road at 400m. 6 - 7 hours ( including return transfers from Launceston) Return to Launceston at approx 4 pm
