Our Guides

Make all the difference

We pride ourselves on the fact that our guides have intimate knowledge of the destinations where we visit - much of which isn’t available in guidebooks for independent trekkers. It comes from many seasons walking the track, learning the significance of the trail, including the indigenous, geological, flora and fauna history.

There's nothing quite like experiencing a new destination with an expert guide who is enthusiastic, informed and thrives on taking travellers through what they know and love about the land. Each of our guided tours includes between two and three guides, whose years of experience and training enhances your trip by sharing their insights into the land.

  • Exceptional Leadership

As our client feedback will attest to, there is no better team of leaders than those at Tasmanian Expeditions. Their expertise & knowledge is matched only by their friendly nature and their desire to impart everything they know about Tasmania to you, including their appetites and the culinary skills that go hand in hand!

Trekkers in our guides care are able to relax knowing that all of the finer details are taken care for them. From preparing breakfasts, lunches and dinners, organising trek logistics for day, tending to blisters, packing areas, coordinating with head office for food drops - leaving you free to immerse yourself in Tasmania's incredible landscapes.

  • On top of this, our guides have complete wilderness training, which means that they are fully capable of handling emergencies; from physical injuries, environmental emergencies such as bushfires, strong weather conditions and the like.

  • Local Tasmanian Knowledge

Tasmanian Expeditions regularly exceeds the expectations of our clients thanks to the passion and knowledge all our local leaders possess. Our guide’s objective is to bring the landscape and its associated natural and cultural history alive for our clients. Recognition and respect for the areas traditional owners, stories of creation, migratory routes and seasonal hunting grounds as well as the individual tribes land management practices is an encouraged facet of our interpretation delivery. Our guides share the very soul of Tasmania with our travellers, and provide:

    • Insights into Indigenous culture and history by bringing the landscape and its natural and cultural history alive. We recognize and respect the areas’ traditional owners, stories of creation, migratory routes, seasonal hunting grounds and individual tribes land management practices.
    • Insights into geological history by discussing/interpreting the consecutive ages of the earth and describing the different geological processes that have helped shape the landscape, including the myriad ice ages, and the soil types produced from different minerals and vegetation types that inhabit the varied areas.
    • Insights into current endemic and extinct fauna by talking about the current threats to wildlife and the efforts being made to address the problems they face, such as the Tasmanian Devil facial tumor. For many travellers, viewing wildlife in their natural habitat is a highlight of their trip, as well as learning the different animals idiosyncrasies.
    • Insights into flora by educating clients on the various forest types, discussing issues such as climate, the positive and negative effects of fire on the different ecosystems and how vegetation types provide habitat for a plethora of bird, animal and invertebrate species.
