In the field commitment

Minimal impact bushwalking techniques are used to reduce the effects that people have on the environment. This allows walkers to enjoy their natural surroundings without causing too much environmental degradation.

Accommodation

Friendly Beaches Lodge, Freycinet

Staying at the Friendly Beaches Lodge is a highlight of the Freycinet Experience Walk. It features a shared dining and living area and two sleeping lodges known as North and South which branch off from the main lodge. North and South have a collection of double and twin rooms to suit everyone’s accommodation needs. Both sleeping lodges contain a lounge area with fireplace, a shared bathroom with a claw foot bath, a separate shower room and two composting toilets. The lodge is an environmental lodge and is completely ‘off the grid’; solar lighting, rain water and composting toilets help sustain its pristine surrounds.

Maria Island luxury tented camp

The first two nights of the Maria Island Walk are spent in wilderness camps situated in beautiful bush and only a stone's throw from the beach. These camps are specially designed to have a small environmental footprint.

The last night on Maria Island you’ll be staying in the beautifully restored Bernacchi House at Darlington, a rare, heritage listed house dating back to 1880.

Bay of Fires Lodge

Set on a hilltop, 40 metres above the pounding of the sea and surrounded by National Park, Bay of Fires Lodge is the only building on 20km of outstanding coastal wilderness. Enjoy views up and down the pristine white sandy beaches. Here you will experience true communion with nature in accommodation that combines simplicity of design with comfort and warmth. Stay here, and at the Forester Beach Camp, on the Bay of Fires Lodge Walk.

Camping

Enjoy quality camping with twin share tents or a swag under the stars. Some camps are inside National Parks featuring good toilet facilities, often on raised timber platforms with rainwater tanks and composting toilets.

Hotels

Most of our cycling tours stay in clean, comfortable multi-share accommodation.

Climate

The East Coast of Tasmania comprises of the well-known highlights of the Bay of Fires, Freycinet Peninsula, Wineglass Bay and Maria Island. The coast produces a cool climate with average temperatures in summer ranging between 10 – 21 degrees.

As the seasons change and it gets colder, the winter months see cold temperatures of 2 – 12 degrees. Tasmania is known for its four seasons within any given day. Be prepared and carry a waterproof jacket at all times. The wettest month on the East Coast is November.
