Cycle, Kayak & Walk Tasmania

The Tasmanian landscape showcases the best of nature with its changing backdrop and unique flora and fauna. A great way to discover its beauty and to see more of Tasmania is to experience it by various modes of activities. Hop on a bicycle to cover more distance, board a kayak to get up close to the marine life and traverse the varying terrain.

Our Cycle, Kayak & Walk Tasmania adventure was selected as one of National Geographic Traveller Magazine ’50 Tours of a Lifetime’. This bucket list journey over six days begins in Launceston covering the best spots along the way to Hobart.

The stunning East Coast is where the cycling begins. With a professional guide and supported vehicle, you choose how far you ride or walk, you may even wish to hire an electric bike or bring your own. The ride down to Bicheno on the Freycinet Peninsula you will pass beautiful coastline and sleepy fishing villages until you reach the seaside town known as the gateway to the best diving spots at Governor Island Marine Reserve.

After a great start to the adventure the next day’s activity to see more of the region is a walk through the magnificent Freycinet National Park. You head to one of the world’s famed 10 best beaches, Wineglass Bay with its sparkling blue water and white sand. Following a discovery of the national park paddle on a kayak around Coles Bay beneath the pink granite mountains known as the Hazards.

Day three activity entails a cycle through several delightful coastal villages and stopping along the way to sample local produce on route to Triabunna, the portside town and gateway to Maria Island.

Maria Island is known as ‘Noahs Ark’ for its unique and diverse wildlife. It’s a photographer’s delight to capture the nature and beauty of the island. There are no cars on the island, therefore walking is the only way around to discover its sites. Trek to the Painted Cliffs with its unique rock formation and Fossil Cliffs for its magnificent views and exposed fossils. Discover World Heritage convict and Aboriginal history whilst camping on the island for two nights.

On the final day, it’s time to catch the ferry to the mainland and transfer to Hobart.

If you wish to cycle your way further and at your own pace take the East Coast  & Port Arthur Self-Guided Cycle journey over 10 days.

This award-winning experience captivates several experiences in one. From cycling the scenic East Coast, kayaking out in the spectacular Coles Bay and walking the idyllic Wineglass Bay and Maria Island. A fantastic mode of discovery all in the great fresh outdoors of Tasmania.
