Regarded as one of the best walks in Tasmania, the Walls of Jerusalem is located in the heart of World Heritage Listed wilderness. It is also fondly named “The Land of a Thousand Lakes”. Approximately 100 kilometres from Launceston, it is a popular walking adventure graded from introductory to challenging over three to six days. The trail can be walked within a guided small group or as a self-guided option with support provided.

Walls of Jerusalem National Park features alpine lakes, tarns, ancient thousand year old Pencil Pine forests and dolerite peaks. Various terrains feature from raised boards to protect the unique alpine vegetation to grasslands, rocky earth and marsh.

Get up close encounters with the endemic wildflowers and wildlife that is distinctive to Tasmania. The Richea Scoparia produces white, pink and red flowers in spring and is relished by the wallabies. The Bennett’s Wallaby can be seen throughout Tasmania, not to be confused as a kangaroo, although it is a smaller marsupial relative of the kangaroo. This wallaby weighing up to 20 kilograms and one and half metres tall features a black nose, a white striped lip and black paws. Other wildlife spotted in the park include wombats, pademelons, quolls, possums and Tasmanian Devils.

Summit Mt Jerusalem, The Temple and Solomons Throne. The landmarks were named for their resemblance of the city walls in Jerusalem, the capital city of Israel. Biblical names were given to the peaks, glacier lakes and plateaus within the park, including Solomon Jewels, Pool of Bethesda, Herods and Damasus Gates.     

King David’s Peak a highlight with trekkers dominates the park with a summit height of 1485 metres providing an amazing view over the area.

December to April is an ideal time to trek as the day light is longer and the days are warmer.
